This question was posed to me recently, and I guess I have just taken for granted that everyone knew about the Foundation.

What I was surprised to find out is that not everyone does.

Most people are familiar with “Vista Grande” the retirement village for administrative professionals and most of us know it is located in New Mexico. But really, how many of us ever anticipate being able to utilize it or even visit it?

It was a cold morning on Saturday, November 9th, but that didn’t deter us from our goal of having the sale. Sandra Hancock, CAP; April Martin and I were there ready to go at 8:00 am. We had a few interested lookers and a couple of people stopped to review our ‘wares’ but in the end, there just was not much interest in shopping that day. We felt it had a lot to do with the temperatures. [more]

Where did 2013 go? I’m sure you’ve asked yourself the same question as 2014 approaches. I can vividly remember preparing for 2000 and the turn-of-the-century. Remember Y2K? Companies formed task groups to tackle what they thought was going to be the complete meltdown of all computers, servers, etc. I served on a Y2K task group that was organized three years in advance of December 31, 1999. You might think it strange to be talking of curve balls at this time of the year when we are more likely to see snow balls than baseballs ... at least for those of us who are enjoying the beauty of winter.

However, it is the time of the year when there is so much to do that we can easily be led astray and distracted from our goals.

I played from the time I was very young and eventually got pretty good at the game. Once I was too old to play “league” ball, I moved to softball and eventually to ‘slow pitch’. I was always a strong hitter. Hitting a well-thrown fast ball is predictable. Because you know where it’s going, it’s fairly easy to hit. You just need to anticipate the speed. But a curve ball is different. You never know which way it’s going to curve; left or right, up or down. [more]

What is trust? How do we describe it? Trust probably means something different to you than it does to me. If it has different meanings to you and me, how can we talk about it, let alone build it?

Because trust means different things to different people, we can be completely unaware that our behavior is eroding the trust of those around us. What looks like fine behavior to you could be making your friend, spouse, boss, colleague or team member wary. [more]
